Hannah Finster, a charter member of the low self-esteem club, met Rick Banks on a train to Providence. Rick was older, attractive, and exuded the confidence of a lion with an appetite for zebra. On their wedding day, Hannah promised to love and obey Rick, not realizing just how literally he would take that promise.
Ten years and one beloved child later, Hannah was fed up being hostage to Rick’s insatiable craving for admiration and control. Her dreams of a sane and peaceful post-divorce life are shattered, however, when Rick begins a relentless campaign to emotionally torture Hannah. Using charm, persuasion, and threat when necessary, Rick methodically destroys Hannah’s relationship with her beloved daughter, Mandy. Worse still, Hannah is forced to bear witness as Mandy renounces her aspirations, true spirit, and very sense of self.
To Hannah, Mandy is a prisoner of her father’s obsessive control, a fish that cannot see its own tank. And Rick is the shark that will consume everything in its path. Now Hannah must find a way to try to save her daughter when no one else understands just how ruthless and dangerous Rick really is.
