Coaching Targeted Parents FAQ

What is the purpose of coaching?

Coaching for targeted parents is designed to help the parent be a more effective parent while contending with an alienating parent and with an alienated child. The goal is to prevent the targeted parent from engaging in behaviors that are likely to exacerbate the alienation dynamic and increase the psychological wedge between that parent and his/her child. In addition, the coaching has been useful for targeted parents with adult alienated children. The coaching can be used to help the targeted parent develop strategies for reconnecting with the adult alienated child.

How long is each session?

Sessions are a full 60 minutes. The first few sessions have to be a full hour but after that people can break the sessions into 30 minute chunks if they have a need to do so. Payment is made in one session units.

Where is your office?

Sessions are conducted on the phone.

Do you do reunification therapy?

No. I only coach targeted parents.

Are the sessions covered by insurance?

Sorry, no. As far as I know, coaching is not covered by insurance.

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Coaching is solution-focused as well as present and future oriented. There is virtually no discussion of the childhood of the targeted parent or their current mental health except as it impinges on parenting.

Can I tape the session?

Yes, that is fine with me as long as the tape is for personal use.

Can I have a third person listen in?

Yes, that is fine with me. Some people find it helpful to talk over the session with a trusted friend afterwards and they like to have that friend present during the session.

Do you coach alienating parents?

I would be happy to discuss parental alienation with a parent who has been accused of or is worried about engaging in alienation behaviors.

Can you be a coach and an expert witness on the same case?

This is a complicated but important question. I cannot start off as a coach and then evolve into an expert witness role as my objectivity would be compromised. I could be a coach after having been an expert witness a long as I am assured that I cannot be called back to the stand.

How much do you charge?

I currently charge $230 an hour. Clients can by Venmo @Amy-Baker-305 or by Zelle using the following email: DrAmyJLBaker@gmail.com or the following number (201) 321-9874.

Beware of Experts Who Over-Promise and Over-Generalize
